If your visa petition is approved, you must have a medical examination at an approved clinic, and an in-person interview.

At the interview, the consular officer will ask questions and ask for documents to verify the validity of the relationship. Below are some questions that the foreign national fiance may be asked at the consulate interview:
  • What are your fiance's hobbies and interests?
  • What does your fiance do for a living?
  • Where do you plan to live in the United States?
  • When and how did you meet your fiance?
  • How long have you been corresponding with your fiance?
  • Do you have any wedding plans?
  • Are you planning to have children?
If the interview goes well, a K-1 visa will be granted.

After you receive the K-1 Visa, you will have six months to enter the U.S. and 90 days after that to marry the U.S. citizen who petitioned for the K-1 visa for you. After the marriage takes place, the foreign national may apply for Green Card through Marriage to become a United States citizen.

  • K-1 Visa overview
