B-2 Tourist Visa
If the purpose of your trip to the United States is recreational; including tourism, visiting with friends or relatives, rest, or medical treatment, you may be eligible for a B-2 "Tourist Visa."

A Tourist Visa is a nonimmigrant visa for people who want to enter the United States temporarily, for pleasure or medical reasons. B-2 Tourists may be admitted to the United States for up to 6 months, with possible extension for another 6 months.

The Immigration and Nationality Act is the law governing Tourist Visas. This law requires that you, as an applicant for a Tourist Visa, show that:

VISITOR VISA GUIDE (B1 & B2)
Business travelers may enter the United States using a B1, or 'Visitor for Business' Visa. Visitors for "pleasure" will receive different type of visa - B2. This guide provides information on both.

- the purpose of your trip is pleasure, or medical treatment;
- you plan to stay for only a specific, limited period;
- you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses in the U.S.; and
- you have strong social and economic ties to your homeland and plan to return home at the end of your visit to the U.S.

A B-2 Tourist may not:
- Run a business;
- Be "gainfully employed" or paid by an organization within the U.S.;
- Participate as a professional in entertainment or sporting events.

Although B-2 Tourists may not receive salaries from U.S. sources (another kind of visa is required for temporary work in the United States) they may be reimbursed for expenses such as travel, lodging and meals.
A B-2 Tourist may be eligible to change status to temporary worker, student, or even permanent United States resident (Green Card holder).
